What is the difference of the aramid fiber MICH Ballistic helmet and MICH UHMWPE ballistic helmet?

The main difference between aramid fiber ballistic helmets and UHMWPE (Ultra-High Molecular Weight Polyethylene) ballistic helmets lies in the materials used for their construction. 

Aramid fiber helmets, such as those made with Kevlar, are known for their high strength-to-weight ratio and excellent resistance to impact and penetration. They provide reliable ballistic protection and have been widely used by military and law enforcement personnel.


Aramid fibers are flame retardant, heat resistant and do not melt or ignite under extreme conditions up to >500°C.

On the other hand, UHMWPE helmets utilize a type of polyethylene material known for its exceptional strength and lightness. UHMWPE helmets offer similar ballistic protection as aramid fiber helmets but with the advantage of being lighter in weight. This can provide increased comfort and reduced fatigue during prolonged use.

UHMWPE ballistic helmets have good twining properties, meaning they are effective at preventing the bullet from penetrating the helmet shell.

Both types of helmets have their advantages and are designed to offer reliable ballistic protection. The choice between aramid fiber and UHMWPE helmets often depends on specific requirements, preferences, and operational considerations.
